What to Look for in Scopes
When purchasing a rifle scope, there are several factors to take into consideration. The lens is obviously the most important aspect of the rifle scope, so it is important to know what to look for. The magnification is of the utmost importance; when looking at the specs, a 4x32 rifle scope will have four times magnification, while a 6x42 will have six times. Most rifle scopes lens have a diameter of 32-75mm, which is the second number when looking at a 4x32 spec, for example. The larger the diameter, the more light can enter and the greater clarity you’ll have. Keep in mind that a large diameter also means more weight in the rifle scope, and for most hunters, a lens of 38-48mm should be adequate. Choosing a lens that is fully or multicoated will improve the clarity and visibility of your rifle scope as well.
